Kansas City Commits $8.5 Million to Expand Affordable Housing Capacity
In a major move to bolster housing affordability, Kansas City is allocating $8.5 million toward eight new development and rehabilitation projects. Administered through the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, this investment will enable the creation and preservation of 447 affordable housing units across multiple neighborhoods.
A Growing Legacy: The Trust Fund to Date
Championed by Mayor Quinton Lucas, the Affordable Housing Trust Fund has become a central element in the city’s housing strategy. To date, it has contributed over $40 million toward housing construction, rehabilitation, and homeownership initiatives—benefiting communities across Kansas City.
“From day one, we pledged to uphold every Kansas City resident’s right to stable housing,” said Mayor Lucas. “We’ve made substantial strides: more than 5,000 units created or preserved, countless families housed, and neighborhoods strengthened. These eight new projects fuel further momentum and underscore our commitment to housing equity for all.”
